A sepia toned photo postcard by Finke of Wilhelmshaven, featuring the torpedo boat V188. She was built in 1911 and lost in July 1915 being sunk by the British submarine HMS E16. Interestingly the card has a different date for the sinking printed to the front (17th Feb 1916!). Quite a bit of corner and edge wear and a small surface crinkle to the top left corner. A little light marking to the front. Quite heavy age toning and a little marking to the reverse. (G) |

A photo postcard featuring the German submarine U-118 ashore at Hastings. She was built in 1918 and at the end of WW1 was surrendered in France. She was being towed from France to Scapa Flow for scrapping when the tow parted on 15th April 1919. Light corner and edge wear. Surface impression from a postal cancellation and impression from an address (probably originally sent in an envelope). A few light surface marks and a couple of light sirface impression lines. An original envelope containing 12 black & white printed postcards showing ships of the Imperial Japanese fleet in stormy weather. The cards were I believe issued between 1918 and 1932. Most are art cards with a couple being printed photos (I think!). Details of the cards are (translated from the captions on the cards) :
1. Fleet voyage in stormy weather.
2. Fleet rushing forward in stormy weather.
3. Submarine rushing forward.
4. Majestic voyage of the fleet.
5. The third squadron being swallowed up by stormy weather.
6. Cruiser voyage.
7. A struggling 30,000 ton giant ship.
8. Nagato's raging voyage.
9. Fleet in raging waves.
10. 10,000 ton class voyage, Nichi, Myoko, Ashigara, Haguro type.

All the cards are in clean condition to the front with a little extremely light surface spotting (only visible when viewed across the light). Extremely light marking to the reverse. Overall the cards are (VG+). The envelope is a little damaged with ageing to the reverse. |
