Prinz Eitel Friedrich 631358 Prinz Eitel Friedrich A scarce photo postcard by the Epes Stationery Co of Newport News featuring the arrival(?) of the commerce raider Prinz Eitel Friedrich at Newport News, USA in 1915. She was fitted out as a commerce raider at the beginning of WW1 and sank a number of merchant ships in the Pacific and South Atlantic before putting into Newport News for bunkers and repairs in March 1915. She remained there and wad interned following the entry of the USA into the war. The card presumably shows her arrival with crowds of onlookers on the dockside. One of her guns is clearly visible near the base of her foremast. A vignette of her captain also included. A little corner and edge wear and some light surface undulations, with a light surface bend from the centre to the right edge, but generally clean to the front. The reverse, printed upside down had a little marking and age tanning. (VG-) SOLD!
