General |
Deutsche Ost-Afrika Linie |
A sepia printed postcard featuring the General at Constanza. She was built in 1911 and at the outbreak of the First World War assisted the SMS Goeben and SMS Breslau with their escape from Messina to Constantinople. She followed them there and served as a hospital and accommodation ship for the two naval ships in Constantinople. After that she spent some time in the Black Sea when I assume this photograph was taken. (Note her boarded up promenade decks on the photo and military figures in the foreground). Some corner and edge wear and a little marking to the front with light imprint from the inked notes to the reverse showing on the front. Inked annotation to the reverse with some foixng marking and otherwise light marking / ageing. (G+) |
