She saw service during WW2 in Java and was wrecked following an attack by Japanese aircraft at Broome, Australia in 1942. Light corner and edge wear. A real photo postcard from the Wessex Real Photo Series featuring the Dutch steamer Dorothea aground on Chesil Beach. She was built in 1903 and ran aground on Chesil Beach on 14th/15th February 1914. She was subsequently salvaged, repaired and became the Ignis in 1915, but sadly mined in the same year. Contemporary pencilled message to the reverse. A little corner and edge wear with a tiny dink to the bottom right corner tip. A little tiny surface crinkling to the top left and bottom left corner tips. Surface impressions from the pencilled message to the reverse showing on the front of the card. Very light marking and a little surface silvering to the photo. Very light marking / ageing to the reverse. (VG-) |
