Unknown (State Line) |
State Line / State Steamship Co. Ltd. |
An extremely early and scarce advertising art card for the State Line and showing an un-named company vessel. The company was founded in 1872 and was wound up in 1890, the remains of the company being acquired by the Allan Line. The card has an advertisement on the reverse for services from New York to Glasgow, Liverpool or Belfast and was produced by the American agents Austin Baldwin & Co of Chicago / New York. The card may have been trimmed down from a larger card as the edges are slightly uneven, or maybe this is how it was produced. Very light corner wear and very light marking to the front. The surface of the card has light undulations over it's entire surface. To the reverse there is what feels light extremely light residue, so it may have been stuck to something at some point. There is some toning marking over the surface of the card on the reverse and a light ink scribble in the centre of the reverse. Size approx 5.5" x 3.25".(VG-/G+) |
