In the photo are a Maersk anchor handling tug being maneouvred by tugs (possibly Maersk Advancer) and a Safmarine containership under construction. Various (Barry Docks) 1129001 Various (Barry Docks) An early, real photo postcard featuring a lovely sharp image showing a lot of detail of vessels in Barry Docks. The ship on the extreme right in the distance is the Marte. There were several vessels of this name, but I think the ship in the photo is the Spanish vessel Marte which was built in 1900 and operated by Cia Maritima Union, Bilbao. The Vessel third from the left alongside the large vessel is the Irina. She was built in 1879 as the Gleadowe and operated as the Irina for three different Russian owners from 1912 until she was sunk off Murmansk in 1917. This would mean the photo can be dated to be between 1912 and 1917. Very light corner and edge wear. Light album corner impressions. A little light surface silvering and very light marking to the front. A couple of extremely light surface undulations. Very light marking / ageing to the reverse. (VG) SOLD!

The vessels pictured are the Yayoi Maru (1919-1944) on the left, with the Finnish vessel Imatra (built 1912 and operated as Imatra from 1920 to 1955 by J.W. Paulin & Co).
