1330201 | Croydon |  An early photo postcard featuring the Croydon of 1898. She was wrecked in Barbuda in 1914. The tug in the photo is the Cleveland of 1894. She was built for owners on the Thames, but sold to J. Turner of Hull in 1903. In 1904 she passed to French owners. The postcard was written and posted at Hull in 1904 by someone on board the vessel in Alexandra Dock, Hull, July 1904. A little corner and edge wear. Rather heavy surface impression from postal cancellation top left. A light surface crease / crinkle from the centre of the left edge up to the postal cancellation impression. A few other light surface impressions and marks. A little surface silvering of the photo. Light marking / ageing to the reverse. (VG-) |
