Baychimo 1315401 Baychimo A photo postcard featuring the Baychimo. She was built in 1915 as the Angermanelfven for German owners. She became the Baychimo for the Hudson Bay Company in 1921 and traded along the north coast of Canada, visiting trading posts and collecting fur pelts. In October 1931 she became trapped in ice off Alaska and was abandoned. She became famous as the "ghost ship" as she didn't sink and was sighted a number of times in the following decades. The last sighting of her was in 1969 frozen in an ice pack!! The postcard was written by someone on board and posted in Dartmouth in 1922. Presumably the photo shows her in Dartmouth with the writer stating that they are alongside the Thespis (Lamport & Holt 1901 to 1930??). Some corner and edge wear. Small crease to the bottom left corner tip. Heavy surface impression from postal cancellation top left. Numerous light surface impressions and undulations. Otherwise light marking to the front. Light marking / ageing to the reverse. (G+) SOLD!
