Antonina 6002202 Antonina Hamburg Amerika Linie (HAPAG) An early, undivided back, printed postcard, featuring the Antonina, a rarely seen ship on postcards. she was built in 1898 for Hamburg Sud and sold to Hamburg Amerika in 1904. She was interned in 1914 and ceded to the UK in 1921. Postally used in 1905 and the message to the front states the writer is travelling from Lisbon to Madeira on her and that it is her maiden voyage (for Hamburg Amerika). Sadly a little worn - some corner and edge wear and a knock to the bottom right corner with several creases crinkles to the corner. A light crease from top edge right to bottom right corner. Some surface marking and indentation from postal cancellation and writing to the reverse. Reverse has ink blot and a little marking, with the card also being re-addressed. (G-) £5.99
Ariadne 6002313 Ariadne Hamburg Amerika Linie (HAPAG) A photo postcard featuring the Ariadne. She was built as the Patricia in 1950 for Swedish Lloyd and served with Hamburg Amerika from 1957 to 1960. In lovely clean condition with minimal corner wear. Clean to the reverse. (Locally owned she was used as a tender to Hamburg Amerika vessels. Owned by Charles Vairon of Cherbourg 1902 - 1909.) Postally used in 1906 with a U.S. German Sea PO cancellation. Augusta Victoria 6002224 Augusta Victoria Hamburg Amerika Linie (HAPAG) A very early undivided back art card featuring the Augusta Victoria. Built in 1888 as Augusta Victoria, she was rebuilt in 1897, when the number of masts was reduced from 3 to 2. At the same time she was renamed Auguste Victoria. This card shows her with her old name, but in the new configuration with two masts! Postally used in 1898 in Wiesbaden. Light corner and edge wear, and light album corner marks / indentations. The top edge has either been detached from another card etc, or trimmed as it is uneven. A small knock to the top left corner tip. Light impression from postal cancellation. Bulgaria 6002142 Bulgaria Hamburg Amerika Linie (HAPAG) An early undivided bank printed postcard featuring the Bulgaria (1897-1906) leaving Hamburg. She was presumed lost on a voyage from Baltimore in February 1899 and eventually returned to Germany in April 1899 to a huge welcome. Very light corner wear and light age tanning to the front with marks from where the album corner mounts were. Clean to the reverse except for album corner marks. (VG) £8.49
Bulgaria 576832 Bulgaria Hamburg Amerika Linie (HAPAG) An early printed postcard featuring the Bulgaria and her Captain Gustav Schmidt. On a voyage in February 1899 she encountered a hurricane and she was presumed lost. She turned up in Ponta Delgado, Azores weeks later and her Captain was hailed a hero to get her home. This is a celebration card to mark the occasion with an inked message to the front recounting the story. Very light corner and edge wear and a light impression line near the left edge.
